It is possible to get involved in a variety of tasks and activities with LTKY to create a communal student life. By joining the activities of organisations and the student union, you will gain new experiences, learn a lot of new things, and get to see student life from a whole new perspective. Organisational activities also provide a nice balance to studying. Through participation, you will also meet many new people and can make a lot of new friends.
The student union offers many different tasks, from low-threshold sections to positions in the board. Are you interested in getting involved in our activities? Read more below!
Sisältö
The Board
The board represents the student union and is responsible for leading the daily operations of the union. The board consists of a chairperson and members, each with their own area of responsibility. The board meets regularly, and the members’ work is full-time. The board’s term lasts for one calendar year.
Applications for the board are accepted during the annual board recruitment, which takes place in October-November.
Representative Council
The Representative Council is the highest decision-making body of the student union and meets approximately once a month. In the Representative Council, you can make decisions on matters affecting the entire student union.
The term of the Representative Council is two years. Members are elected in the Representative Council elections, which are held every other year during the fall semester. The Representative Council meets 6-10 times a year. Thus, it does not take an excessive amount of time, but it does provide significant influence.
The next LTKY Representative Council elections will be held in the fall of 2025. Even if you do not run for a position, it is important to vote because the Representative Council represents all students. Follow our communications so you don’t miss the elections!
Sections
Joining sections is a very accessible way to get involved in the activities of the student union.
Events Section
The Events Section organises LTKY events in Lappeenranta, such as Jäärieha, Sober Mayhem, and LTKY’s Wappu events, under the leadership of the board’s event manager. The Events Section operates as its own entity with its own finances, and each section member has specific roles, but everyone gets to participate in organising all events. In the section, you have a significant impact on what the events will be like.
The Events Section term lasts one year, and the application period is held annually in November-December.
Wappu Section
The Wappu Section is responsible for the communication and marketing of LTKY’s Finnish Longest Wappu. This includes updating the suomenpisinwappu Instagram with Wappu event information, updating SkinnarilaBot, creating Wappu passes and posters, and handling photography and videography. The Wappu marketing team does not organise events but ensures smooth communication for Wappu. The Wappu Section operates under the board’s cultural manager and works closely with LTKY’s communications.
The Wappu Section term lasts for the spring semester (from January to May), and the application period is held annually in November-December.
Well-being Section
The Well-being Section works on issues related to well-being, sports, and mental health. The section’s tasks include organising well-being events (such as sports trials, Mental Health Mondays, and well-being weeks) and participating in the planning of well-being initiatives. Through the section, you can have a tangible impact on the well-being landscape of LTKY and the student community. The Well-being Section operates under the board’s social policy coordinator.
Student Representatives (Hallopeds)
Hallopeds are student representatives in administration, meaning students who represent other students in the decision-making bodies of LUT University. As a Halloped, you have the opportunity to influence what studying at LUT University is like.
Being a Halloped offers a chance to get acquainted with the decision-making processes of the university and other stakeholders, to make an impact on local issues affecting students’ daily lives, and to gain invaluable experience in societal engagement.
Learn more about Halloped activities here!
The Halloped term usually lasts for two years, and applications are primarily held every other year during the fall semester. Positions may also open at other times throughout the year, so be sure to follow our communication channels!
Projects and Jobs
The student union also hires both long-term and project employees for shorter-term positions. Project work is an excellent fit alongside studies. Annually, we hire a housing secretary, whose task is to coordinate LTKY’s temporary accommodation in Lappeenranta, and a project coordinator to organise LTKY’s annual celebrations.
Information about open positions is announced on the website and social media.
