SYL General Assembly and LTKY’s delegation
The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) represents around 130,000 students in Finland, advocating for student interests and promoting the conditions necessary for a good student life. All student unions in Finland are members of SYL. The SYL General Assembly will be held 14.-15.11.2025, where a new board will be elected, the action plan guiding advocacy work and the union’s policy paper will be approved, and other issues brought to the General Assembly will be addressed.
The General Assembly is SYL’s highest decision-making body, where each student union selects its own delegation to decide on the union’s activities and finances for the coming year and to elect the board for the following year. The size of the delegation and the number of votes depend on the number of members in the student union. The General Assembly provides a great opportunity to familiarize oneself with the student movement and national-level student advocacy.
The LTKY delegation consists of eight (8) voting representatives and five (5) deputy members. More deputies can be sent with justification. In recent years, the delegation has included both board members and active representatives.
Those selected for the delegation are expected to participate in preparatory meetings for the General Assembly and to carefully review the General Assembly materials that will be provided later. There will be roughly 5 preparatory meetings held during the fall. Those selected for the delegation must commit to attending the General Assembly for the entire duration. It should also be noted that the General Assembly days are long, and personal matters cannot be attended to during this time. LTKY will reimburse travel expenses incurred from attending the General Assembly.
How can I express my interest?
According to LTKY’s voting and election regulations, the representative body appoints the General Assembly representatives based on the board’s proposal. You can apply to the delegation by filling in this form by 31.8.2025. The board will review all nominations at its meeting, after which the representative body will make its decisions at its 6/2024 meeting on 9.9.2025.
