LTKY is seeking a total of 26 HallOpEds for LUT’s governing bodies and 4 HallOpEds for the EULiST Student Board. The application period ends on 4.10, and any LUT degree student can apply. What is a HallOpEd?
HallOpEds, or student representatives in administrative bodies, are students with voting rights in LUT’s various decision-making bodies. The role of a HallOpEd is to bring the students’ voice to the forefront of decision-making and to facilitate communication between LUT and the students. This autumn we are recruiting new student representatives for the Faculty Councils (18 in total) and the Collegium (8). Regular members have voting rights, and deputy members participate in meetings on behalf of full members when necessary. HallOpEd positions are positions of trust, not jobs. HallOpEds are also expected to participate in joint HallOpEd meetings organized by LTKY.
Faculty Councils (LBS 3+3, LENS 3+3, LES 3+3)
Each of LUT’s Schools has a Faculty Council that decides on matters such as the faculty’s study plans, changes to degree programs, dissertation processes, and the granting of docentships. The council is chaired by the dean of the faculty and meets approximately once a month. The term begins in January 2027 and ends in December 2028. If a student representative withdraws from their studies or graduates during the term, they must resign from the position. Three regular members and three deputy members are sought for each faculty. You can only apply to your own faculty’s council.
Collegium (4+4)
The Collegium’s task is to oversee and review the activities of the LUT Board, elect the Board, and approve the financial statements. The Collegium is headed by a chair elected from among the Collegium members and it meets approximately four times a year. The term begins in January 2027 and ends in December 2028. If a student representative withdraws from their studies or graduates during the term, they must resign from the position. Four regular members and four deputy members are sought for the Collegium.

Application Process
To apply for the position of HallOpEd, please fill out the form and attach a cover letter (maximum 1 page) and a resume. Both the application and the resume must be in PDF format. In your application, please describe your motivation for applying to become a HallOpEd, your previous experience in student activities and advocacy, and your study schedule, i.e. how long you could act as a HallOpEd. The application can be submitted in Finnish or English.
Please note that the Student Union is a public law entity and therefore applications and HallOpEd decisions are public documents. Applications are submitted to the Student Union’s representative council for review to support decision-making, and they can also be viewed through an information request. However, applications are not automatically publicly available, and contact information is never shared.
If you wish to apply to both the Collegium and the Faculty Council, please indicate in your application which one is your first choice. Your application will be processed according to your first choice, and if you are not selected for your first choice, you may be considered for your second choice.

Application Review and Selection Criteria
After the application period, you may be invited to an interview, which can be held on either of the campuses and remotely if necessary. Interviews will be conducted in both Finnish and English. Interview invitations will be sent in week 41 and the interviews will be held in weeks 42–44.
The internal team at LTKY responsible for the HallOpEd application has defined criteria in advance that measure the applicant’s suitability for the position of trust in question. Based on the applications and interviews, the application team will make a presentation of the most suitable applicants. Based on that presentation, the Student Union’s representative council will make the HallOpEd selections. The representative council may also read the submitted applications when making a decision. Criteria that influence the selection include, among others, a motivated approach to HallOpEd activities, up-to-date knowledge of LUT’s operations and the student community, and cooperation skills. The HallOpEd application process has been prepared and implemented by the Education Policy Sector of LTKY (Henna Raekorpi, Vera Stojcheva and Sara Taskila) and Executive Director Arttu Kaukinen.
The training of the new Hallopeds will take place during weeks 48 or 49. The exact date will be announced later.
FAQ
I don’t speak Finnish at all, will that prevent me from participating?
Non-Finnish speaking students can also be selected for all halloped places at LUT, and LTKY’s monthly meetings are also held in English if necessary. Please note, however, that the official administrative language of both the university and the student union is Finnish, and therefore the use of English in many administrative contexts may not be very proficient yet. LTKY is committed to supporting international students in halloped activities, so in case of problems, you can contact LTKY immediately.
I plan to graduate in a year, can I still apply?
You can apply and be selected, but the person acting as a halloped must have student status. Graduates can no longer act as a student representative, and when you graduate, you must resign from the halloped role. In this case, we will open a supplementary application for the vacant position. In principle, we hope that the selected hallopeds can serve in their role for as long as possible.
I work at LUT, can I apply to be a student representative?
You can work as a LUT-halloped if your working hours are no more than 50% of normal working hours. For example, during a full-time summer job at LUT, you are not allowed to act as a halloped. However, there are usually no meetings during the summer, so summer jobs do not significantly limit halloped activities. EULiST hallopeds are employed by LUT.
I am studying at the Kouvola/Mikkeli regional unit, can I apply to be a halloped?
All degree students at LUT (= bachelor’s and master’s students = members of the student union) can act as a halloped, regardless of their place of residence or home campus. Please note that meetings can be held both face-to-face and remotely.
On what basis are halloped selections made?

Based on the applications and interviews, the interview team makes a presentation of the most suitable applicants, on which basis the student union’s representative council decides on the halloped selections. How much time do the halloped activities take?
When acting as a halloped, you commit to participating in the meetings of the decision-making body and meetings with LTKY. You must also prepare for the meetings carefully, for example by reading the agendas, asking questions about unsure matters (from LTKY, for example), talking to other hallopeds, and forming your own opinion on the matters. The LTKY’s monthly meetings last about an hour. In addition, the LTKY organizes additional meetings if there are topical issues to be discussed (recently e.g., the feasibility study of bachelor’s education, the election of the rector) or when the hallopeds and guild officers should meet. On average, LUT’s internal halloped activities take about a few hours per month.
