Representative council elections are coming, are you ready? Representative council is the highest decision-making body of the student union and the council is leceted every other year. All under-graduate and post-graduate students can vote or sign up as a candidate in the council elections, if they have paid the student union fee by Mon 25 September.

About the Representative Council

The Representative Council is the highest decision-making body of the Student Union and meets approximately once a month. The Representative Council elects a Board for the Student Union and appoints student representatives. It chooses the student representatives for the LUT University, LOAS and FSHS administrations and decides the amount of the membership fee and approves the budget. In addition, the Representative Council decides on the broad lines when LTKY expresses its opinion on, for example, education policy.

Election schedule

  • 25th of September, election announcement
  • 27th of September, electoral register is published (holds all eligible people)
  • 27th of September, the candidacy period begins and the sign-up form is published
  • 18th of October by 3 pm all complaints about the electoral register must be submitted to the Central Election Committee
  • 21st of October, complaints about the electoral register are handled
  • 9th of October, candidacy period ends 
  • 12th of October the eligible candidates and their candidate numbers are published
  • By the 18th of October, the election time and location are officially published
  • From the 25th of October to the 6th of November, Early voting
  • From the 7th to the 8th of November, official election days (voting ends on the 8th of November at 3 pm)
  • 8th of November, election results are announced & election “after-party”

Electoral Register

Electoral register

All eligible LTKY’s members are listed in the LTKY’s Electoral register. Eligibility means that you have the right to vote and sign up as a candidate in council elections. Electoral register must include all present students. LTKY’s Central Election Committee has approved the register. 

If your name is not on the electoral register you are not able to vote or run for elections. 

The electoral register is available here with student numbers on Wed 27 September. The electoral register with both student numbers and names can be found from LTKY’s office during office hours 27.9.-8.10.

If you are unsure of your eligibility you can check it from the electoral register. If after an inspections we find that your name is not on electoral register but you believe you are eligible, you must file a written appeal at the latest 18.10. at 15:00.  

Every eligible member of the student union can run for elections with the form verified by the Central Election Committee. 

Run for elections

You can run for election by filling the form at the latest 9th of October by 3:00 pm. Same deadline is for returning the possible form for founding the electoral alliance and constituency.

Electoral Alliances and Rings

Forming an alliance:  

Two or more candidates can form an alliance. Alliance name and sign must be marked to the founding form of alliance. The form for alliance forming must include the name of contact person. There can be 27 members maximum in one alliance. 

The form for forming a coalition can be found here. The form must be submitted no later than Monday, October 9th, 2023 by 3:00 pm

Forming an electoral ring:

Two or more coalitions have the right to unite into an electoral ring. An alliance and a candidate and two or more alliances and candidates have the same right.

The members of the ring shall submit to the Central Electoral Commission a form listing the names of the member unions joining the ring.

Election compass

Candidates are offered the opportunity to fill in an election compass which has questions related to the university field, LUT, and LTKY. The election compass is implemented by the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL). 

Ethical Guidelines

These Ethical Guidelines for the LTKY Student Union Council Election are intended to ensure that every electoral alliance has equal opportunities for recruiting candidates and that every alliance and candidate has equal opportunities for campaign advertising. 

Furthermore, the purpose of the Ethical Guidelines is to guarantee every voter and potential candidate the freedom to make their own decision on who to vote for or which group to stand as a candidate for.
