Job hunting and career planning can be exhausting. Feel like you need help with these subjects?
LUT Career services is here to help you. We offer assistance trough face-to-face meetings and our Moodle-course. If you have any questions, you can come to our office at Student services on Wednesdays from 12 to 15. All students are most welcome and we will be there to answer your questions and guide you forward. If the timing is inconvenient for you just send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we will answer your questions or arrange a meeting with you.
Find your career
In addition to face-to-face meetings, you can find advice for job hunting and career planning from the new Find Your Career self-study platform in Moodle. The platform is open for everyone regardless of the study program or the phase of the studies. If you wish to have comments e.g. about your CV, application letter or LinkedIn profile return them to Find Your Career -platform and you will get our comments within a week. You can choose the pace of self-studying according to your own needs.
However, we recommend that you will use the platform as your companion throughout your whole study process. When you have finished a certain amount of separate modules, 2 ECTS will automatically be added to your transcript of records. For our international students we will recommend especially the modules Get to know the Finnish labor markets and Where are the jobs?.
We will also organize some face-to-face trainings concerning job hunting and career planning trough out the academic year. Currently, we are planning an info session for our international students about all the practical issues (e.g. work permits) concerning getting employed in Finland. We also welcome all wishes and suggestions – also from our international students! Email your suggestions to [email protected].
Job portals
Besides guiding and advice, LUT Career services also offers two job portals for our students. LUT Rekrynet includes jobs, internships and summer jobs mostly located in Finland. If you are looking for a job, internship or thesis position from your own field, you should actively follow this portal because over 20 new positions are added to LUT Rekrynet every day.
Highered, on the other hand, contains mostly international positions (jobs and internships) in multinational companies.
Recruiting events
You may have already noticed several recruiting events taking place throughout the year. These events, organized by LUT Career services, are a great way to meet companies and to create networks for the future.
Our strong suggestion for our international students is to be present in the recruiting events and use every opportunity to connect with companies. In the Finnish work market, networks are essential when you apply for summer jobs, are looking for your master’s thesis position or apply for your first real job after graduation.
Follow LUT Career services Facebook groups and our UNI page to have the updated info about the coming events. This fall we will still have at least Match Made in Lahti recruiting excursion as well as PWC and ISS Pop Up Rekry events scheduled. Year 2019 starts with DuuniDay, the biggest recruiting event of the year on January 29th and RekryPoint – No Finnish needed in April.
If you are planning an international traineeship, LUT Career services will also help you with that. Check the basic instructions and the link list of internship organizations at UNI. As soon as you have found a suitable position for yourself, you can apply for internship grant from LUT. The prerequisite for the grants is that your studies are proceeding in schedule and your internship will meet with the requirements of the different grant types.
